Island Journal

March/April 2001

Friday
Whippoorwill in rare form last night. Must have been the stars...

Saturday
Saw Willard Scott in Bailey’s. He’s looking good!

Wednesday
Space shuttle launch scheduled for this Saturday night. Called J & M to come watch from our dock.

Thursday
Early tennis with S, then over to BIG Arts for Italian class. Marzo, Aprile, Maggio...

Friday
Nemo came home with fish breath. Apparently, he’s learned to meet K at the dock. One clever cat.

Saturday
Great balls o’fire! Night launch was spectacular! Clear skies and all systems go!

Sunday
New York Times on the back porch with S and Nemo. The day melted away.

Tuesday
Bayou was hopping this morning—dolphins were on the round-up.

Thursday
Dinner at Katie Gardenia’s tonight. Magic.

Friday
Traffic was t-h-i-c-k today. Had to remind myself how slowly I drive on vacation in pretty places.

Sunday
Long tennis match with NW, then courtside mimosas for a treat. Movies tonight!

Monday
Kelsie came over by canoe at sunset. Had three dogs with her. Nemo was a little freaked out.

Wednesday
MM gave E and me a fly-fishing lesson this afternoon. I could really get into this!

Thursday
Thinking about fish. Got out the cast net and practiced from the dock.

Friday
J & J came in for the weekend; four of us went on a sunset sail. Ahhhh.

Saturday
Eating, sunning, shelling, eating, drinking, pool, Scrabble, drinking, shower, eating, drinking, beach walk...having company lets me be on vacation, too.

Sunday
Oops, 12 years here but I still got a sunburn.

Tuesday
Took J & J on an easterly adventure: Orange River, Buckingham, Olga, Alva. Even the ostrich farm near LaBelle.

Thursday
The Curtis boys were moving their beehives around on San-Cap Road.

Friday
S and I made the rounds at island galleries today. Realized we do it in Naples, why not at home?

Saturday
Tennis lesson with JW, then over to Pine Island to hear Jimmy Jensen’s band.

Sunday
A hawk was on our roof when we left the house this morning!

Monday
Signed up for volunteer work at CROW. Hawk inspired me.

Thursday
E & M over for dinner; made my favorite chicken marinade: Key lime juice, Curtis honey, stone ground mustard.

Friday
S and I sneaked off for an early run for breakfast on Cabbage Key. It was just us and the ducks.

Saturday
MB spelled “coconut” in Scrabble, and got 47 points. Does that happen in Idaho?
